1. Episode II was several orders of magnitude better than I. That said, Episode II is several orders of magnitude worse than ROJ, which is the worst of the previous 3 movies.
2. The acting is absolutley ridiculously bad in Ep1 and Ep2. Star Wars had some bad acting, for sure -- Mark Hamill did a lot of his worst work in SW and ROJ. But I think that has more to do with Lucas' inability to direct actors or to write fresh scripts. Harrison Ford is a pretty good actor who was never given much of a chance in Lucas' movies becaus eof bad script and not enough retakes. Also, that scene where Anakin and Amidala roll around playfully in the grass is a cliche' of a cliche'. Just awful.
3. Lucas has been completely overtaken by Peter Jackson and his Lord of the Rings. That movie has every bit of Ep1 & 2's special effects, but unlike Ep1 or Ep1, is also paced better, has acceptable and even good levels of acting (even from the teen actors), and is never, not for one second, boring. I feel LOR is almost as epic and revolutionary as the original Star Wars was. It has totally redefined the sci-fi/fantasy movie genre and set a new gold standard.
Lucas is too swamped by his own story and is unable to convey that story to the screen. Peter Jackson takes what may be an even more complicated story and tailors it perfectly to a 3 hour epic movie.
I'll be there for Ep3, but not with 1/10 of the anticipation with which I await LOR 2.
