A few ways to REALLY discourage a thief... Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Mon, 10 Jun 2002 17:32:11 In Reply to: Stealing Saabs?, C, Mon, 10 Jun 2002 15:51:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
1- Don't leave anything remotely valuable in plain sight.
2- Park near newer/nicer/more expensive cars.
3- Windows tight, everything locked.
4- The last time I left my SPG parked overnight in Manhattan, I unbolted the steering wheel and brought it inside with me. If the "club" is a good deterrent, imagine a car with no steering wheel...
5- I know a guy who was a repo man way back, and they had pigeonholes in the office at the storage lot where they put the car key (if available) and the primary ignition wire (the one between the coil and distributor cap) so that the owner wouldn't re-reposess the cars.
6- If a thief is determined enough, they'll show up and winch your car onto a flatbed truck. Nothing is perfectly safe.
Good luck. Your car shouldn't attract professional thieves, but can still wind up getting unwanted attention from some crackhead looking for anything to trade for his next ten dollar rock, or some bored ghetto kids vandalizing expensive-looking stuff as some kind of class warfare. If you're really worried, talk with an insurance agent who is familiar with the neighborhood.
