I read tons of different car magazines. I don't expect R&T to give me accurate crash info any more than I really on Consumer Reports to tell whether or not a vehicle sets up into 4-wheels drifts easily.

The consumer is responsible for knowing what the magazine's criteria is. If you can't consider the source for information when you evaluate it, you'll probably end buying a lot of "Ronco" products. Everybody has different categories of importance for cars, that's why there are so many different car mags.

I don't think the BMW example is to strong either. The allure of going to Spain to drive a BMW around a race track is getting to drive a BMW around a race track in Spain. It's not like there putting them up in Vegas hotels with escorts and complimentary everything to get them to give the car a good review.

If you want a good example try this one: Many New York (possible others states) newspapers have a once a week car review article in their "lifestyles" sections. Over the last few years these "articles" have almost all changed to "special advertising sections." However the lay out has remained the same and they could(are intended to) easily be confused as regular newspaper content. The only thing that has really changed is there are no longer any critisms leveled at any of the vehicles "tested," ever.
