Keith, you say you have the Blaupunkt connected THROUGH the stock amplifiers? I believe that's what Nick is saying to bypass, not the crossovers at the tweeters themselves (I'd be surprised if the stock woofers have any crossover at all).
Which outputs of the Blau are you feeding into the stock amps, speaker level, or line level? Either way, you likely have both a voltage and impedance mismatch, which could very easily account for your sounds of garbage. Just as a test, with the deck loose, see if you can can a nice long test speaker cable (nothing fancy, 18 gauge or larger will do). Disconnect all the Blaupunkt outputs except the speaker output connected to your test wire. Use two wires for stereo effect, and run them to the rear speakers, after disconnecting the stock wires. See if it still sounds like garbage. I'd be surprised if it does.
Don't connect the output directly to the tweeters though. Leave the inline capacitor there. It's probably between the woofer input terminal and the tweeter input terminal. You can feed whatever signals you want to the woofer with little fear of damage.
Oh, and all the extra hiss could be yet another symptom of a mismatch between the Blau and the stock amps. Hiss should be essentially inaudible from a normal listening position until the volume is well over 3/4 up, sometimes even all the way up. This is with no signal in the music, keep in mind that some CDs actually have hiss recorded on them between tracks.
Good luck!
