Agree with some of the other posters here on 2 things: 1) A Saab with a V8 is a crappy idea (you'll never sell me one). And 2)It *is* necessary to sell cars in the US. The average technical discussion between a dopey US car buyer and the salesman probably goes something like this: "How many cylinders does it have?" "Four" "Gee, that's not enough for a big car like that, is it?".
Also think we need to let Saab in on a little secret. The text mentions the problems of "plenty of wheelspin and torque steer" with the 300hp engine. Well, Saab, here's the secret: if you look closely at the rear of the car, you'll find there are two more wheels there! Send 1/2 - 2/3 of the horsepower to them, and you'll have a car that behaves a whole lot better under acceleration!! Audi figured this out in the early 80's, many other manufacturers in the 90's, it's time Saab's "secret new 4WD system" became reality.
