Driveway mechanic seeks advice on breaking into the auto tech business. Whats the best route to go? Local community college tech school? Lincoln Tech style school? I hear mixed advice from people from all walks of life. Some say avoid the whole business like the plague, mostly due to auto dealer lack of fairness, pay issues, work availability..hours issues..etc. Others say "you can go as far as your ambition"...A freind of a friend now working at a BMW dealership and doing quite well. Lincoln Tech type schools cost almost 20,000..! and thats just basic certification, add another 20,000-30,000 for a set of tools...then theres the mechanic I asked for advice on this subject one time...he said he had no prior training..!!!?? just started out and picked things up along the way? advice, opinions anyone?
