And Motor Trend just named it sport utility of the year. The CrossCountry was a big hit with Volvo. Vue's are doing OK. X5's are still order only. Escapes were excluded from all the Ford deals. Think of Subaru without an OutBack, not hardly. Yukons, Escalades, Envoys, Ex(Ford)whatever, Americans aren't tough to figure out. It's a big country, but a big car is considered excessive, A huge SUV is cool.
I probably wouldn't buy one myself, my wife would kill me, socially irresponsible and all that, but if you buy into the no hatchback means greater appeal and sales, then an SUV or at least a crossover should be a no brainer. Hell, screw the hatch to sedan, the SUV should have taken priority.
Saab's niche coulda' been the 9-3X, a Sport-Crossover-SUV......
