Eh... Trooper=Montero n/m Posted by Justin VanAbrahams [Email] (#32) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Justin VanAbrahams) on Sun, 10 Nov 2002 06:57:30 In Reply to: Re: Is a minivan the only think that can fit 6 people :(, John Davies, Sun, 10 Nov 2002 00:15:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No really, no message... just pointing out that Isuzu makes the Trooper, and there is no Trooper Sport. Mitsubishi makes the Montero, Montero Sport, and the Galant. But the Montero Sport is not based on the Galant, it's body-on-frame just like it's bigger brother. Mitsubishi is adding a new, smaller SUV called the Outlander, which only seats 5. It is unibody, and may be based on the Galant - it has the same pidly 2.4l 140hp four that powers the Galant and the base Eclipse. No V6 is currently available, which is too bad. Personally, had I to buy a 6 passenger vehicle, I'd opt for a Trailblazer/Envoy - they're really hard to beat in terms of what they offer, and that 4.2l six is a nice engine. As a child of a Volvo household, I can attest to the fact that sticking anything you care about in the jump-seat of a Volvo wagon is ludicrous, not to mention uncomfortable. When I see 5 year olds sitting in the rearward-facing seats of a euro-wagon, I keep my distance. The idea of ending up with the hood of my car touching their ankles (or worse) in the event of something Really Bad doesn't sit well with me. Hey, as long as I'm rambling, why don't you buck the trend of SUVs and minivans and buy a full-size van conversion... You can then carry drinks in the refrigerator, you've got a sink for little emergencies, and probably a fold-out bed for long roadtrips when the kids get irritable. My parents traded in our '79 GMC conversion on the Volvo, as a matter of fact - an act I will never forgive them for. I lost my captain's chair and got thrown in the trunk instead. What does that say? Anyway... on the subject of full-size vans, why not a VW Eurobus? The new ones are pretty darned nice, V6 powered, and still euro. A good compromise between a wagon or a minivan, and you get to keep the fridge, the sink, and the bed.
Glad I could help!
