the minions of the press are always looking for something to pick at I suspect. In the scope of things it is a big hit for a low volume manufacturer to produce but when one considers the cumulative effect of neglect this GM division experienced over the past years it shouldn't come as a big suprise that SAAB will post an impact like this as they retool and begin to pump out new sheetmetal.
GM didn't do much for the marquee overall right off the bat, more focused on trying to move existing lines through heavy financial backing. While not all bad it left a product line in place that experienced little or no revision compared to many of their competitors.
I suspect the 9-3SS will catch on and provide a good foothold for the start of a SAAB rebirth. It is fast, relatively cheap with a good features list (seriously compare it to a Honda Accord EX or Passat GLX). Yes, gone is the hatch, but inbound beyond the sedan are the svelte SS, a wagon, a convertible and the crossover. If SAAB plays their cards correct they could well be the next success story akin to Audi or Volkswagen. Remember when the press smothered Audi and their sales plummeted? Remember when VoA produced crap and their sales plummeted too (not that the Mexican produced vehicles are much better but...)?
Anyway, I'm probably babbling to the choir but I suspect it is just something of a trend. Wonder what Saturn will do this year? They've got a pretty homely line of stuff that doesn't seem to move mountains either. Wonder when they will pick up flack?
