You must understand that in most european countries :
- gas is very expensive : for example, here in Belgium, I pay my 98 oct. Shell at about 1,10 euros/liter ---> about 1.20 $/liter
- governments make us pay heavy taxes : for example, here in Belgium, for a new vehicle, you have to pay this :
from 8 CV and/to 70 KW :61.97€ - 9 et 10 CV and/from 71 to 85 KW :123.94€ - 11 CVand/from 86 to 100 KW :495.79€ -from 12 to 14CV and/from 101 to 110 KW :867.63€ -15 CVand/from 111 à 120 KW :1239.47€ - 16 and 17 CVand/to 121 to 155 KW :2478.93€ - more than 17 CV and/or more than 155 KW :4957.87€.
Only to have the right to put your new car on the roads !
And, after that, you have to pay annually an amount of money that goes about from +/- 100 euros to 1.500 euros.
For this moment, a euro is about : 1.05 $
- Diesel is less expensive, but then governments make you pay an extra annual tax 'cause you are causing more pollution.
That's why a lot of europeans from the middle classes are found of cars with real engine power, but with less KW or CV, that consume less
gas as possible. A goal for a lot of people here is to consume from 6 to 8 liters gasoline/diesel for 100 kilometers.
So, an Aero for us( just an example ) is a heavy money lost. It goes fast, it's powerfull ... but taxes are too heavy !!
