GM can resist "americanizing" SAAB.
GM started out with a good idea when it came to re-bading Opels as Caddys to compete with the euro brands in the US. The Catera is not in inherently bad car. As I see it, where the problem started was when GM "americanized" it with softer seats, tacked on chrome, new grille, etc and turned it into "just another Caddy". If you're going to import a european car to compete with other european brands, keep it european.
Hell even the Opel-Daewoo / Kadett-LeMans wasn't a bad car when it was maintained. I had one when I was in school and kept it for over 200,000 basiclly trouble free miles.
With SAAB's engineering expertise and Opel's economy of scale, I can see where the 2 marques working together can produce some fine automobiles- IF GM can resist turning the final result into "just another Caddy" when it gets here.
