You can improve on the 4 x10 with out too much effort. Basically a 4x10 is about the worst speaker design in the world and it's uncommon so it's pricey. You can make adapter with a peice of fiber board, or even plywood. Basciall you want a ~6x10 peice of wood with holes that match the screw holes on a 4x10 then you put a ~5 inch hole in the center and bottom mount a 5.25 speaker to it.

There are many options in this size and I could show 10 speakers that would sound better and cost less than $50 (I think most places want about $100 for 4x10's) .

Let me know if you're interested in specific suggestions and where to get the best prices.
