A 1" and a 5" hole saw are all it takes for components... but you really only need coax in back anyway. Assuming proper measurements, you only need to cut the panels and not any metal at all so modifications don't affect the body at all. You have to use some sort of nut or other retainer on the back of the screws or they'll easily and quickly strip out the fiberboard. That makes getting the panels back in place a bit of a chore, but it isn't too bad and can be done with the rear seat in place if you're lazy like I am. :) I used strips of adhesive 1/4" foam weatherstripping around the edge of the panels to ensure a tight fit against the body. The result is better bass and, happily, less noise from outside as well. In previous installations in other cars I didn't use the foam, and the panels had a tendency to rattle with bass, so I'd recommend doing it.
FWIW, this is where early c900s had their rear speakers mounted, though Saab used 4" units. I've found 5.25" ones fit just fine, but 6.5" are too big.
