We wanted something not so main-stream. And the discount-store prices for the Kohler fixtures were more than the prices for the Rohl stuff. We'd had stainless in the kitchen for 10 yrs, & then porcelain-on-steel (not cast iron) for the last 4 yrs. For kitchen use, we didn't want the chip-ability of porcelain-on-anything, & we were tired of the clang & cold, industial look of stainless (this house came with a "soundproofed" stainless sink when we moved in a yr ago). Yes, fireclay can be broken, but not easily (it's pretty shockproof). If you have a tendency to drop heavy pots in the sink, then it may not be the best choice. The greatest likelihood is that a corner gets snapped during installation, due to its weight. But once it's in, it's nearly indestructable.
