An issue with pushrods that perhaps was not stated explicitly, is that for high speed operation, mass and interia are limiting factors. So for high RPM's the less stuff in the valve train the better. So so without the pushrods and rockers. A push rod engine has an RPM limit where the valves float. The valves will not follow the cam profile and go balistic. Floating valves can tangle with the pistons.
