I ditched my 87 9000 for a 88 900 and I find myself waxing nostalgic about the old 9000 now. A big part of that may have to do with the 9000 being a turbo and my current 900 possessing normal aspiration. I agree with other posts: the 900 may look really cool but you can fit a lot more stuff in the back of the older design 9000. The 9000 has a 4spd auto, 900 only has 3, 9000 has simpler suspension, better brakes, stronger clutch, cabin air filer (I really miss theis feature!) and ACC, and both front seats are heated (vs 900's driver's side only).
The 900 also seems to ride a little higher than the 9k - I feel less secure on the highway in my 900.
But with the 900 you have that bad-ass manual sunroof. Much better than the anemic motor in the 9000.
The key's in the wrong place in the 9000.
I believe that the 9000 was the "safest car in sweden" for the duration of its production.
