If you are just really wanting to free up some cash and still have a great fun car go for a good condition SPG. Budget about 4 for the car, spend 2k on upgrades and making it run to your satisfaction, and keep 2k hiodden away for the repairs as they come. Used parts are plentiful and cheap and upgrades are easy to come by and the paths well documented here on SAABNET.
It won't be nearly as refined as your Aero but will be a very satisfying drive, cheap, and fun. Doing the mods yourself and learning as you go will be almost as much fun as driving the car. It'll give you somethihng to do whilst your wife is studying away.
