More accurately, from different and respectable sources: The first 9-2, to appear in May 2004, will be a lightly modified 5 door Impreza with flat four engine. It will be made in Japan and feature a proper Saab front end (as testified by clear 9x influence on the official sketch published for the NY auto show) while the rest of the car, including the interior, will be largely Subaru. Two versions should be available starting at about 20K in the USA and Canada and GM hopes to sell 10 000 a year.
This car is not going to Europe but designers and engineers from both companies are already working on a proper joint venture to be released in about three years. This second generation 9-2 will inevitably be available with a diesel version, as it will be sold in Europe.
