My point was that there are a lot of similarities, in how
the car was developed and in the execution of the plan. As for
the target market, Wikipedia (for whatever it's worth) says:
(The Solara was) Created to appeal to a demographic of more
sport-minded drivers than those who prefer the Toyota Camry
sedan.
As for them being really different vehicles, well that's really
the point I'm trying to make. In a lot of ways the really aren't
that much different. Both are front-wheel drive (implemented using
the available technology), and both are intended to be comfortable,
up-market, sporty, 4 person, all-weather convertibles. That being
said, the big difference is the transmission. You could get a C900
CVT with a 5-speed stick, and that option simply isn't available
on the Solara convertible.
After moving from one to the other I was struck by the similarities,
and thought it might be interesting to see what other people thought.
