After I typed my post I remembered the original window sticker that is in the glove box of my Viggen, over $45K back in 2000. From photos it appears that GM saved money by retaining all Opel exterior body panels and only changing the badges. The front end in particular is clearly the corporate Opel design language rather than Buick's. I am surprised by the low power output of the engine (total HP not HP/liter) but not changing to a more powerful engine for the North American market only is also a money saver for GM.
Maybe as a used car in the future if anything happens to my current summer time fun car..
