My sister HATES station wagons, HATES them with a passion. She owns 2 SUVs. I don't know why a large portion of americans are anti station wagon (I've owned a few, mainly saabs, and even my wife's car, a ford Flex, is very station wagony) but for what ever reason, you squish it and pull it JUST enough to make it into an SUV/CUV, and people are all over it.
