As a former 9-3 Convertible owner and current S60R owner, I couldn't agree more that the R version solves ANY problem associated with the S60 model line: 0-60 in the low fives, 300HP (stock, that is), AWD, 6-speed, 18" wheels, large Brembo brakes, and the optional sport body kit looks positively menacing in Black Sapphire Metallic.
As respects the interior, I can honestly say that I like it. The seats are better than the ones in my previous 9000 Aero, and the metallic trim compliments the bluish-black leather (we call it Nordkap) very nicely. Overall, I think the ergonomics are pretty good and the nav system is very intuitive.
As respects the engine note, I 'm still having trouble enjoying the "sound" of the I-5 but there are some good turbo noises and the factory exhaust has a little bark to it.
All in all, I'm glad I went with the S60R instead of the S4 and if you're looking for a new sedan, it's worth a look. Also, the 2004s have depreciated like crazy and are readily available used in the $29,000 - $32,000 range.
Regards,
Derek
