Need Cheap (& SAFE!) Winter Car for Nanny - Any Ideas?

We just got an accepted offer on our dream house and are very excited. One item that has come to our attention is that the winter drive up the long, twisting & steep side street leading to our house will likely present a problem for our nanny given she has an older Maxima with all-seasons.
As she will ultimately be transporting both of our little ones around town for play dates & the like, we think this may be as good a time as any to find an alternative vehicle for our nanny.
Our requirements:
1. Safe
2. Very safe
3. Fairly reliable
4. AWD would be preferable (the car will be shod w/dedicated snows regardless of AWD, FWD, or RWD)
5. Relatively cheap (we're obviously thinking used and would prefer certified but not required)
6. Did I mention safe?
Any ideas?
TIA,
Derek
