50 miles- seat squeaking (like an old mattress in a cheap hotel)
120 miles- flat tire monitor goes blinking on perfectly inflated tires
300 miles other seat starts squeaking,
305 miles interior clock goes blank for a few days
800 miles suspension in rear starts clunking. All replaced (this was the first problem the dealer recognised was for real)
900 miles seats rebuilt
1500 miles, seats rebuilt again
2500 miles, sunroof rattles begin, like 4 loose quarters in a plastic soda bottle, constantly
3000 miles rear hatch rattles start- diagnosed quickly, fixed quickly sunroof attended to, deemed fixed, begins rattling in dealer lot on way home
4000 miles steering starts clicking, dealer says "it's supposed to be that way"
4500 miles clicking is crazy, I get a tech to listen to it, whole steering column is replaced
4501 miles, clicking is back, order new one, no car for 5 days, no loaner.
4501 miles, second new steering column replaced, sunroof re-addressed. Better on both accounts
4800 miles, steering column begins defect again. Replaced again, finally with quality parts.
6000 miles seats rebuilt again, after a nice fit.
8000 miles heater/ac fan starts sounding like a blender for a week. Cures itself.
blah, blah, blah.
We dumped it at about 12,000 miles, not before it had had two flat tires (which BMW claims are unfixable- but certified tire shops can fix for $20), two recalls, no loaners, dents from looking it it wrong, using super unleaded averaged 23mpg (ok, it's hilly in SF).

It was the worst car we've ever had. I think BMW specced it for all the best suppliers, then found out the price, and realized they better find cheaper suppliers.. compromising the quality. Add to it dealer service that required 14 day waits and useless staff that clearly had been trained with that, 'we couldn't replicate the problem BS'.

Had I never experienced Saab service nor BMW service, nor Honda, Volvo, I'd have thought it was normal, but the MINI was the standard for lame.
