First off, thanks for the quick responses. Its people like you guys that make this site the best out there.
2nd; the VAG and OBD tools are the ticket. Anyone who owns an Audi/VW should own one. I agree that the CEL could be something totally unrelated. However, there lies the issue; VW are notorious for having electrical problems and "chain-reaction" operational problems. From what I've read, once that CEL come on, you're doomed. many people end up replacing part after part in succession.
In classic "Girl Form", she's taken off with her mother for an afternoon of shopping to forget about the car. There is an Autozone nearby so I figure she'll end up over there sooner than later unless she decides to get OBD/VAG tool. Since she's looking to get a new car anyway, I doubt she would invest in it. Otherwise, the car is in nice shape w/ 105K, new tires, wheel bearings and now an alternator. I'm affraid it may need a headgasket/clutch or something else before 120K and might be worth selling while its in nice shape. It has served her well and this is the first "underhood" item she has had to replace but It might be worth moving onto a newer vehicle for the sake of sanity. Based on the VW Lemon site comments, it might be best for everyone involved.lol.
Thanks guys. -Steve
