The car was just doing you a favor. Think of the weight savings! Plus, it saves you from the tedious task of opening and closing the door every time you get in and out of the car. Consider it the ultimate keyless entry.

Italian cars are great at shedding unused and redundant parts. My Alfa has lost numerous parts over the years but it still runs like it always has. If a part falls off and the car still runs, you simply didn't need it!
