Chevy Camaro - will it be another Dud like the SSR? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 14:38:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Detroit auto show has given me a chance to do an almost side-by-side comparison of the yet-to-be-built Chevy Camaro SS and an Audi A5.
The Camaro SS is forecasted to have an MSRP of ~$31K, the A5 is currently available with an MSRP of ~$40K. The Chevy is big, boxy, blunt nosed, with a cheap appearing interior but a lower price. The Audi appears sleek, sophisticated, with a handsome interior, although at a higher price.
Without even considering the Mustang in the mix (which I believe looks much better than the Camaro) the Audi is the hands down winner between the two for 2-door sport coupes. Plus, the Audi is available with AWD (or is it standard?). The Camaro may be receiving a lot of hype, but I was extremely disappointed by it. As big and boxy as this "sports car" is, it is obvious to which product all of GM's displaced truck & SUV designers got assigned when gas hit $4/gallon last summer. The Camaro's hood is almost waist high for an average man when standing next to the car!
