Maintenance is the same for Saab's and Volvo's following about the same schedules being sort of slimmed down nowadays and to be extra careful should be padded somewhat in terns of fluid changes more often than what they say.
Standard repairs like brakes and such are the same between the two.
Volvo had some problems with the early Network cars from 99-2002 just like Saab had a slew of problems with their first real Network car with the 9-3 Sport Sedan in 2003-04.
A lot of things has been ironed out but people has to keep in mind that you are buying highly computerized car whatever brand you buy nowadays and just like your home PC, you might have to "reboot" it ones in awhile.
And fine wires and terminals and circuit boards don't like to be soaked in water and being corroded or spliced into or anything and subjected to heat and cold and vibrations.
One drawback of Volvo is that if any and most of the electronic modules has to be replaced, new "drivers" has to be downloaded for the module to talk to the car again.
That can only be done by a dealer or Volvo independent that has spent a lot of money on Volvo's special tool computer system.
