Great in what sense? If this is related to your previous post about VAG products, I don't think my advice is any different. The engine (V6 or I4) is not what gives up or costs money on these cars. It's everything else.
It sounds like you're committed to an A4, and if that's the case I would take whatever you're looking at buying to a VERY qualified mechanic - possibly even the dealer - and getting a FULL rundown on the car.
