I need to do some test driving.... Posted by Johnson [Email] (#3237) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Johnson) on Thu, 9 Jan 2014 13:37:06 In Reply to: Re: Altima?, Snowmobile [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 9 Jan 2014 08:01:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I really miss having power. I've had three 9-5's and a 9-3 SC. My first 9-5 I tuned to a little over 300hp (dyno tested) and That was a blast till it was lost in an accident. (not my fault) then after I got married we had a 9-3 sc we owned all of 5 weeks when my wife was hit by a truck that ran a red light. (she was 8 1/2 months pregnant, walked away with a slight bruise on her arm from the air bag). Then I bought 2 9-5's an 03, and an 07 aero. The 03 had transmission issues that were masked by fresh transmission fluid when we first bought it... the 07 was flawless for 60k + miles, but then needed some work, and I just couldn't get the parts I need, it was when a dic went from 200 bucks to over 500 with a 2 month back order. That is when I bought my patriot. I had gotten rid of my motorcycles with baby #2, and I wanted something that could be "fun" and I've had a lot of fun with my patriot. (if anybody goes to my youtube channel I'll list it below)
at the same time I got rid of my bikes I bought my olds alero. It had been in an accident, repaired, and sold to me CHEAP. and its been fine. but like I said I've had it two years, and it just doesn't run well, its slow, the brakes kinda suck (even after I put new pads/rotors and new fluid). and its not a pleasant place to be.
The biggest reason I would even consider an avenger is the power... 285hp out of that v6, and still get 30mpg (very similar in power/mpgs as the 9-5) its not as big as a 9-5, but its bigger than my patriot, and I fit 3 in my patriot, doors open bigger too. There was a major refresh in 2011, and the pentastar added in 2012, and that baby moves
my price range is hard.. I knew my alero wasn't going to last much longer, I was hoping to squeeze another year out of it. so I've been saving money up. The $15k is what I've saved up, and what I would have finished saving by the end of the year. so I'm not really willing to go over that... if I was, I could get a very nicely equipped 2014 for 19k otd. I also want a newer car, as I want it to last a long time. I'm tired of switching out cars every few years. I want to drive it at least 10 years.
My price range takes me away from most European cars (which I shy away from due to cost of repairs), and japanese cars. I have to go too old/too many miles. It forces me to look at american cars and Korean cars.
My dad is in education, and their whole fleet is made up of malibus, and he got one brand new, and its constantly broken. and its not due to lack of maintenance. its all handled by the district mechanics. they are just not well built... He's the superintendent, so he didn't even get a base fleet model, he bought himself a nicer model. they have a suzuki kisashi that I like as well, but without suzuki being here in the us anymore I worry about parts availability again..
Ford fusion is an option. I need to look at them I test drove an 09 I wanna say, but its been a few years since I did that.
I don't know much about korean cars. last one I owned was a kia rio, that somebody traded me for a bike I started a restore on, and just never finished, so value wise about the same. it was not a nice car, and I didn't keep it long. So I'll have to do some more research there.
if I could get an old gen 9-5 for under 15k, that had less than 20k miles on it I would... but I haven't seen them. Around me the closest one I have found is an 04 aero with 88k miles, but it was not treated well. It needs new wheels, they are all beat to hell, which makes me worried about its other suspension parts. and how else it was treated.
