Need more info on the BMW & Benz, like how many miles and general condition. It also comes down to what your needs are such as what do you use the car for, how much driving do you do & under what conditions, where do you drive, what's winter weather like, does anyone else drive the car, etc. Also with used or when a new car is out of warranty, got a good indy shop?
Personally, if looking for a new 'smaller' car, I'd be looking at the Mazda3 hatch. It's gotten great reviews and Mazada's new designs are really growing on me. If I wasn't down to less than 3K miles a year (train commute) on a car (vs the 10K on my wifes Odyssey) I'd be considering a used one, but still too new so no mid milage used ones yet. I've been eyeing higher mileage IS 350 CPO cars, (Lexus seems to have the best CPO plan), but still driving too little mileage for me to justify the purchase.
Personally I have a viseral aversion to any Chrysler product... had a '97 stratus out of college that I had to have a friend dump through the dealer auction, my girlfriend (now wife) had a'97 Neon that thankfully she leased as it meant someone had to take it off our hands, and when I rented a Dart a year or so ago I had to swap it out as the airbag light was randomly coming on. I know, small sample set... but sometimes emotion trumps logic when there are lots of choices. Speaking of emotion, I can't wait for Alpha to come back to the States.... the heart wants what the heart wants.
