Thanks for the responses. Some telescopes are long rectangles, others (google "dobsonian") are more boxy and with a taller vehicle I could get a larger one of those :) . IKEA bookshelves are long too, though we've pretty much filled the house to capacity bookshelf wise.
I squeezed in everything to capacity combining a couple telescopes and equipment with stuff needed for a 3 day, 2 adult plus baby trip to grandmas over the holidays. If we needed two car seats in the back in the future, I think I would need a minivan or Highlander/Pathfinder size to carry things comfortably. Now to just wait for 2015 CPOs in a few years...
You know, trade-in or resale value is going to be almost non existant anyway, so even if I get something newer to haul the family around, I can still save the wagon for solo trips to IKEA, dark sky locations, etc.
Can you get a limited use auto policy for a third car? All insurance I've had wanted about the same $$ to insure each car I have, despite value and use differences, so I could keep the 9-5 wagon on a separate policy if necessary. I couldn't take it to work if I did that though, if I had a problem on the way to work I'd be up the creek.
