Lots and lots and LOTS! of body styles. Sedans, coupes, wagons, hatchbacks, SUVs, gran coupes, gran tourismos, etc. Once coupled with all possible powerplant options it is like 120+ combinations even before ones considers a trasmission choice. And let me not even start about colors and options.
As a result it is nearly impossible to find most combination for a test drive or purchase as dealers stock only the popular ones. And good luck finding information about repairing BMW of your particular choice in the future.
At the same time it looks like BMW goes for great length trying to make all their cars looking kinda the same - defeating the purpose of creating all the bodystyle diversity in the first place (the i-series is an exception).
