You are very smart. Harness bars make harnesses safe in a street car. Most people just throw harnesses on a car. You have to be extremely careful when installing because if the top harnesses go down the back at too steep of an angle it can cause problems--if you get in a wreck it would push down too hard on your shoulder and back and likely break your back. Where as with a harness bar the top harness is made to stay on a horizonal plane before dropping down to mount an the floor or to the back seat brackets.
I don't have a harness bar/harnesses on my Saab, however I do have on my Z car. Since they don't have harness bars readily made for my car, and likely won't for your car either, I just had one made.
Talk to a local welding shop and tell them what you are interested in. I had a bar that they attached a few inches of angle to. Then I had a hole drilled in the angle, attached it to where the stock shoulder harness was and then called it good go. Essentially, I made a harness bar for $50 while the Sparco harness har is $400+.
A harness is one of the best mods you can do in Autocrossing. Side bolsters and a good seat can only do so much. With a harness, driving on the street is completely safe--not sure why the other poster said not to drive on the street with a harness.
Cheers
Chris
