Good god Chet, I'm sorry to hear about your BTM experiences...
I, however, installed an MSD BTM on my 83 900t as per the instructions on Kevin K's page on Twinsaabs.com - http://www.twinsaabs.com/msd/msd_part2.html It has been trouble free since last fall.
The increase in low end responsiveness is wonderful. The increased pep off-boost blends into the boosted performance alot smoother than stock, where it was nothing... and then boooooost. My car is unmolested beyond that, so I cannot give advice about how it'll work with a bunch of stuff ;) But I suspect that it'll be a nice, relatively easy and somewhat inexpensive remedy. As with any performance mod, before you undertake it, check those vacuum lines, fittings, bushings, etc.
This weekend I'm going to fit a $5 junkyard 900 IC I onto the '83T, as per Kevin K's instructions in the FAQ here. Apparently I'm building quite the hotrod. For 1984. All I need are the rear window louvers and a sweet Aerosmith sticker and I'll have the role down cold.
