The idea is to get as much of the wheel in there as possble with a careful amount of trimming only to let the heat out. I wouldn't worry about any cracking of the intake housing. I like the combo I have which is machined with a cropped wheel vs. a clipped wheel. I think this is the best method, but I can understand why it isn't as popular due to the time involved and the balancing. :o)
