Had an open air intake and exhaust on a rotary turbo (89) and it absolutely killed the engine when it was 95+ out - was no good way to isolate the intake on that car so ended up ditching the cone and making custom airbox/filters
Agree to put the strip in to seal out any bay air and suck in the ambient -
The metal from Tal. for 97 900NG was pretty thick and wasn't even warm to the touch but then haven't had summer temps yet - may help then with the shield we'll see when I mount temp sensor to monitor intake temps.
another thing I haven't seen tried is to put water on the intercooler when it's really hot out (evaporates easily in the dry west texas air even in summer!) but should have a model ready this summer. The thing gets pretty hot to touch and since it blocks the A/C evap and rad. it might need to be kept under control!
