I know what you mean by dog off boost. After years of driving an older 8V turbo, and then with my current 86 16V turbo, I was quite surprised when I test drove my friend's 86 16V n/a. The response from a dead start was, well, startling when compared to both my turbo cars. The difference between the two was obviously the RPM range where the turbo would kick in. I'm still trying to find the car that will jet from the line like the 3 speed manual F250 pickup with straight 6 engine I drove in the 80's. Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING (stock, that is) could beat that truck those first 50 or so feet. And the tranny was bullit proof. Had a very short shift stroke. Previous owner brazed a T handle on it's end. Awesome to speed shift with. Stayed on the road no matter the condition, acceleration or speed. Could carry and pull heavy loads. Sigh.., I miss that truck.
