Hi Josh

Having just been in your position, I understand your questions. I ended up going with a Viggen, mostly because I just got lucky finding one in blue for the right price! The major difference in terms of power is the engine, 2.3 liter vs 2.0 in the standard 9-3. Also, the 99 9-3 used Trionic 5 engine management (2000+ use T-7), while all viggens use T-7. A different turbo is also used on the viggen, though I'm not sure of the specific model (that question can easily be answered by some of the more experienced members of the board). The suspension is also much more sport-tuned, and the brakes are 12.1" in the front and 11.3" in the rear, vented and slotted, much larger (in the world of brakes) than those on the standard 9-3. A regular 9-3 can certainly be made into a sporty, fun car on the level with the viggen. Also note that the 9-3 SE is available with a 205hp variant of the 2.0 liter. I opted for the viggen as a starting point rather than work up to that level. It's really up to you; the standard 9-3 is a great car with the usual saab quirks, but after driving and owning a viggen, I can tell you that it's unlike any other saab I've driven and is an absolute blast to drive. Best of luck in your search!
