The Viggen is fun for sure, but being that it is a t7 with the different pistons and has an oil trap, different head gasket ,it has a mass airflow sensor. A 99' 9-3 se is my pick for maintenance and no leak situations. The turbos are nothing compared to the mitsu's that are on the 9-3's. (older that is ) The little gt series performs well, but longivity is an issue and smoking is another. I replace quite a few turbos, ( about 1 a month in my shop ) on the gt series, vs 1 or 2 of the mitsu's a year. also the viggen will be much more prone to leak oil, such as the HG, oil pressure sensor, and main seals from that block. If you have a ecopower block ( t7 9-3 or 9-5 ), be sure to drill out the input port of the oil trap to allow the crank pressure to pass thru it. Both are fun and have gobs of potential. From a mechanics stand point, i will always take a non-ecopower(99 and older) 9-3 purely for the maintenance stand point.
good luck
Joe
