Had the forward top stud break off with the smallest of tightening on an 86 turbo engine with less than 80K miles on it. I couldn't come up with an effective and cost saving way to extract the broken stud, so I drove it that way for a year. Finally I could no longer stand the smell of exhaust in the morning and decided that if I was going to have to pull the head to extract the bolt, I would drop in a rebuilt head. That was last month and I love my nearly leak free "new" manifold/head. I still have some puff puffing around the turbo elbo unit upon first start, but that goes away at the first hint of heat expansion.
