Hi Matt
I'm in the same position as you are, though my Viggen is a 99 (even more worry over engine failure!). I've done the head bolt retorque and most standard preventative maintantence items. I really like the quality and the proven results from some of the major contributors to this board, like Jak and Taliaferro (genuinesaab), and it seems like all the comments are positive from those with their products. Like lms mentioned, sort out your suspension first, then choose an exhaust solution from one of the sponsors, then worry about the software. With Nordic software (not sure about Jak or SQR), stage 2 and 3 are the same software, just different hardware (3" exhaust, 3.5bar fuel regulator) so I feel the bigger jump is between 1 and 2. Personally, I think I'll go with stage 3 and just be extremely careful in maintaining the car (proper gas, frequent oil changes w/M1 or Amsoil, plugs, etc). These are already great cars and while it's always a risk to modify a car, the benefits usually far outweigh the risks. Besides, if you melt a piston...that's just an excuse to rebuild the engine to handle more power :)
Best of luck!
