It was considerably low cost, yes, but I almost lost the tips of my thumb and forefingers by a hacksaw incident when cutting the dist heat shield. There's always a price to pay somehow when dealing with the SAAB continuum.
I custom shaped the endtank ports - using a fine styrofoam used to arrange flowers bought from an art and home decoration supply store. The idea was to use a material that's easy to shape and sand, then tape and glue together. Looking at the below picture, it was made with the IC in place, and the pieces cut and shaped with the port piping and rubber connector in place to ensure the alignment was correct. After getting the working shape of the pieces, I layered it (thick) with JB Weld, an epoxy that can withstand high temps. Then I layered fiberglass over that. Once the piece had cured solid, I scooped out the inner foam and smoothed out the imperfections on the JB Weld inner surface with my trusty Dremel tool plus sanding.
