Recently purchased a 98 9k, Auto, 137k miles. Green - Not my favorite color but I really wanted a 98 9k. Love the size, ride and performance. I don't think the car is running as good as it can.

I'm going to assume nothing has been done and replace, Oil, tranny fluid, fuel filter and hoses (cooling and vacuum - hear a whistling noise now and then from engine compartment). Turbo guage seems to oscillate at times. Averaging 26.6 mpg.

I know it needs a new muffler (sounds like a hole in the systerm). I'm going to have the dealer go thru it and give me recomendations on what else I may need to replace/repair. After I get the report I'll run away as fast as I can (They wanted $900 to replace the DI on my last Saab).

Questions:

1. What grade of gas should I be running? I've been using the cheapest but am wondering if that is affecting performance.

2. Any recomendations on simple (read cheap) upgrades I can do to improve performance.
