C900TSE Conv: Everything ran well. Put in Mods: 3 Bar FPR, #30 Injectors, K&N Air Filter, APC Mod (the one published here involving a couple resistor changes that maintains the knock sensor), replaced failed check value. It ran really good, much stronger. Borrowed a boost gauge which showed 14 psi. THat lasted about a year. JAK advised me to reset the timing with TDC at -13 or -14 (??). Never got to it, I was planning on getting a upgraded vaccum advance canister and upgrading the exhaust but ran out of $$$.
Something changed. I was getting less boost but more 'hang' after releasing the gas peddal. Installed boost gauge. Reading 6 PSI max. At cruise getting minus 15 to minus 20 PSI (IS THAT RIGHT?).
Found split hose going to the middle (3 o'clock) input to the APC solenoid. Replaced. Found split hose between throttle body and vacuum advance. Replaced.
Improved performance. Much better bite on low end but still 6 PSI max. Conclusion: waste gate was not getting triggered by APC and vacuum advance was not working.
Soleniod & BPV tested good. Found check value from value cover backwards (I must have done it when I replaced it.) Fixed. I have not tested these things: Pressure Value under dash, release mechanism at brake, Knock sensor, APC function.
The car starts easily and runs well, just not much fun. Visually everything seems normal. Exhaust is clear - even when engine is cold. There is the normal oil spot on top of the heat shield over the turbo - from the oil feed line. There is no whine sound like a turbo gone bad. I cleaned the air filter and found some oil there, but everyone says thats normal.
I have ordered all new vacuum hoses and will replace all since none look that great.
Should I test other things while waiting? Am I right to be reluctant to go after the pressure sensor?
