For a street car, the goal with adjustability is to find the right setting and never touch them again.
The Konis are rebound-adjustment only so unless the fronts are grossly too soft the setting that matters most is the rears, because it's the rebound damping on the inside rear that affects weight transfer to the outside front when turning-in to a corner.
Mixed results with Konis in other applications, got a set in my track Mustang and they work fine (though there's a huge array of opinions on that, current What's Hot leans toward Bilstein), the set in my M5 as part of a Dinan stage-3 package work great (they came with labels on them essentially "These are set to Dinan spec and don't screw with 'em if you know what's good for you"), the set I had on my Taurus SHO were poor - the rears were fine but the fronts were awful, too much compression damping and never enough rebound even adjusted full-stiff, a really poor match for the Eibach springs - the nonadjustable Tokicos work a lot better on that car.
The SHO was the only set that were inserts, and the insert design results in a smaller cylinder, smaller piston diameter, less oil capacity, I'm not sure if this results in damping compromises.
Steve Dinan's take on Koni vs Bilstein vs whatever as explained at Bimmerfest this year: Konis have the right damping but their quality control is crap, Bilstein's internal bumpstops are worse than useless because they're too stiff and not progressive enough, they've given up on both of them and are doing custom coilovers with JRZ now. His take on Konis matches my experience in the Taurus world: high infant mortality, a lot of 'em would puke their oil out in the first six months. If they lasted past that point they'd be fine.
