Gregg, A lot of Honda guys are putting 400+ HP down to the wheels using eBay intercoolers. They're cheap and apparently hold up well.
You might also look into used Evo VIII intercoolers -- these come up for sale pretty frequently as guys replace them with the big bling stuff. I've seen them down as low as $125 for a nearly new one.
If you really want to keep the end tanks, then look into the SRT-4 intercoolers -- I believe they are long and narrow like the Viggen, so you may be able to fit a used one, or at least use the core. Like the Evo coolers, these come up for sale often.
I personally don't see the need to spend $$$ on fancy Spearco or Bell stuff -- intercoolers are simply heat exchangers, and, in my opinion, they are all essentially the same (or, if one is better than another, I doubt the difference is too great). I am using two c900 cores welded together on my '86.
