overboost/fuel cutoff

Last night I experienced overboost/fuel cutoff at highway speeds, and I am not sure why. Just replaced the boost solinoid (number 3 in 8 months) everything else seems to be good, it is running like a champ, no cel.
it is a 97 aero maptun/3
I was in 5th at 60ish mph, mashed the pedal to pass, the boost spooled up and then spiked, and then cutoff. I recreated it a couple of times after in 3rd and 4th at higher rpm, the turbo would spool and then spike way past the end of the gauge, then cutoff.
I have never had this happen, so it took me by surprise.
Looking for advice as to what could cause this.
Thanks,
Kurt
