I had one of those on an 03 Aero manual, no my current 03 automatic.
It worked well, but was boomy at idle, very much so at cold start in the garage. The exhaust tip is near the LH air vent behind the bumper in the corner and I am guessing that that is where much of the low frequency gets into the cab.
I would not change the base boost!!! ***Use a SMBC which also will make the turbo get on boost much faster*** Email and I will forward to Jeff.
You need the new intake snorkle tube from Nick and a low restriction air filter.
Use the NGK BPCR7ES plugs and gap to .039 - .040 and regap frequently. That will allow the ECU&DIC to run at a more agressive state.
Clean injectors and combustion chambers with Techron Concentrate, 20 ounce bottle if never used before, otherwise 16 ounces every 8K or 3x/year.
Use premium fuel, avoid higher levels of ethanol if possible.
The lower restriction intake and exhaust mods increase power by reducing the compressor effort and thus the turbine effort which lets the WG be a bit more open with a lower turbine backpressure. At 15 PSI of boost, there could easily be 30 PSI of pressure in the exhaust manifold that directly acts on the piston during exhaust stroke which directly reduces torque.
With the T7 "controlling torque", many thought that there could be no improvement with things like this. The T7 controls air mass flow, one can increase power with secondary effects as described above. There are more secondary effects of this type than the one I described, but that is the major effect. The drivability aka responsiveness can certainly be improved.
More SMBC: You can increase the effective base boost to the point that tire traction becomes the limit in the lower gears... thats all that you can ask for. It does not increase peak HP, you need new software for that. For an automatic the improvements are less, as the automatic and turbo have a synergy that gets boost on much faster than a manual gear box can allow. I will install a SMBC on my automatic and see what improvements I can report.
