DO NOT use the flux cored wire, but it seems you found that out already. The flux is basically shielding the weld, same as the gas will do. Flux cored wire will give you welds similar to arc welding > dirty dirty dirty.

Can you just swap welding wire that easily on your welder? As I recall on my Lincoln, when I switched from flux core to mig wire with shielding gas, I had to change the liner in the cable, and also change polarities of the wires inside the welder. Lincoln makes a mig conversion kit, which I bought the very next day, after seeing what flux cored wire welds look like.
